Warwickshire 5-piece The Four Davids’ debut single ‘A Good Life’ was the first release on UK independent Wise Dog Records.
‘A Good Life’ is a timely ditty about the perils of city banking when the ordinary man bites back. The jaunty, mandolin-led track is an ideal showcase for Annie Ludford’s plaintiff but fully formed vocals and melancholy harmonies.
‘A Good Life’ is backed with ‘When Once’, a more traditional, gothic-folk tale with a contemporary, languid backdrop.
Early spot plays from Steve Lamacq (BBC Radio 2), Tom Robinson (BBC 6 Music) and John Kennedy (XFM) accompanied strong support from Martin Winch (BBC Coventry & Warwickshire).
The Four Davids’ songwriting core of Annie Ludford (vocals) and Jack Lane (guitar/banjo/mandolin) is augmented for live work by other members of the Midlands-based Box Car Collective.
